The Art Room's Newest Additions!

Mrs.Dunphy welcomes her interns Grammy Gigi and Miss Robbins to the art room this year, as well as our  new little friend, Arty, the gecko!  We've also said hello and goodbye to two monarch butterfly caterpillars, Cody and Magellun, as we watched them transorm into chrysalises and then turn into butterflies.  One class actually got to witness the first butterfly slip out of its chrysalis and pump fluid into its wings!!

We quickly released the butterflies back outside so that they could start their long trek to the Oyamel fir trees of Mexico.  But during their short stay here, we created a Terrarium that houses various plants and now, Arty the gecko!  Reptile Riley's mom donated the cute little guy so that the art room could have a pet!  Here are some photos that Miss Robbins took of the Terrarium and Arty the gecko.....

Joey the photographer

This is my animals and me. ^^

Hi, my name is Joey. I want to share some of my photographs. I have a chicken coop behind my house where my rooster, Sparkles, lives. He is an Americana rooster and eats chicken grain. He crows all the time... non-stop. Here are some pictures of Sparkles.

Just like Petey the love-bird. He lives in a ying-yang cage. Don't try to hold him. He bites!

Petey!

I like to take pictures of all my animals. Enjoy!

Straight from the runway

This is an Oaxacan sculpture of bat, made by Nick, a fourth grader. His piece exhibits superb design and artistry, landing him a spot on the catwalk. He's been waiting weeks for his big debut! Nice work, Nick!

Fifth grade's Figure Drawings

Emma and Courtney are hard at work.

The fifth grade has been working hard to learn how to draw the human figure. After they draw the figure they design their own fashions to cloth the figure. They are doing a great job as you will see as you scroll down this post.

Libby is drawing a figure that is eight heads tall.
Go Anthony!
A blushing clothing designer. Annabelle will have a label!
Mikey is smiling because he's an awesome artist.
Austin is creating a masterpiece sketch.

There are a lot of tutorials on drawing figures. This is a link that shows how to draw Ichigo, a character from Bleach. The instruction includes facial propotions, expression, hair, the body, and clothing. It is only a little over 5 minutes. The artist shows how to use his eraser to add light areas, as well as how to add shadow areas. This link can lead you to many other good tutorials. Enjoy

Third grade's "Dock Paintings"

Well, the third graders paintings are hanging in the OTES Art Gallery and they look great. Take a look at some of them.

These are just a sample of the amazing paintings the third graders finished. They used colors that are bright and wild, like the Fauve painters. They also used expressive brushstrokes to define their subjects. They did a beautiful job. Please add your comments for the children to read!

ART TEACHERS TO THE RESCUE!!!

The Old Town, Alton, and Bradley art teachers, K-12, met at OTES for a meeting. They worked hard to make ceramic pots that the second grade students will use as inspiring examples for when they make their pots. Take a look.

This is Trish Kelly, the Middle School art teacher. She's making a slab box with a stamped ribbon.

Wow, Mrs.Kelly!

This is Josh Curtis, an art teacher at OTHS, Old Town High School. He taught Mrs. Dunphy how to make this cone shaped vase.

Helena Bosse teaches art in Alton, Bradley, and Milford. Wow, and she still had energy to make two vases.

Rachel Betterly is also an art teacher at OTHS. Look at her wonderful creation!
Mrs. Dunphy's vase fell apart, so this is her second one. She copied ideas from all of the other teachers.

ENJOY !
